How To Find Your Purpose In Life
You have a successful career, a loving family, and a great network of friends. You have what many people consider a perfect life. But you still feel like something’s missing - and this “something” is your purpose in life.
Finding your purpose is critical to your well-being and will lead to a happy, fulfilling, and long-lasting life. A study from Applied Psychology in 2010 found that people with a sense of purpose tend to live longer and healthier.
While each person will likely have a different purpose, studies have found that goals that create a sense of purpose are usually the ones that have the potential to improve the lives of other people. For example, researching a disease, teaching children, or helping people in poverty - something meaningful. Of course, this is not applicable to everyone, a person’s purpose is their own. But just in case you want to know how to get started, Full Potential Partners has invited Holistic Life & Empowerment Coach, Michelle Pein, to give us her expert advice on how YOU can find your purpose.
TIP #1
The first tip from Coach Michelle is to clarify what our life motives and guiding principles are. Having clarity in our life helps us know what's important and keeps us focused on where we want to go. When we have clarity in life, we won't be easily distracted. "Ask yourself [this]," Coach Michelle says. "Is there something bigger than me, a cause, that I would like to dedicate my time and energy to?"
TIP #2
Everybody has something that they are passionate about. To rediscover your passion, Coach Michelle advises us to ask the following questions:
What topics or interests can't I stop thinking about?
What are the things I love to learn more and more about?
What are the things that set my heart on fire?
What do I love to do?
As you ask yourself these questions, it's also important to identify what you don't want in life. "If there are topics you dislike or experiences you hated, write that down," Coach Michelle says. "This will bring clarity too." Identifying what didn't work for her was an important strategy Coach Michelle used to find her own purpose in life.
TIP #3
We all have our superpowers, but the problem is not many of us know how to, or are able to, release that superpower. These "superpowers" are things that, when you do them, you forget about time. "Ask yourself, what are the things or activities that I love to do and that I am naturally good at?" says Coach Michelle. If you have a hard time finding your superpowers, go to your close friends and ask them to help identify your key talents and what makes you special.
Conclusion
While each person will likely have a different purpose, studies have found that goals that create a sense of purpose are usually the ones that have the potential to improve the lives of other people. For example, researching a disease, teaching children, or helping people in poverty - something meaningful.
In fact, Coach Michelle found her passion because she had the possibility to coach one of her former clients and help him take charge of his life and figure out what was truly important to him. During this coaching process, she realized she wasn't just doing something that she really loved, but also something she was naturally good at. "I realized that my purpose is to inspire and empower people to take charge of their life to be the healthiest and happiest version they can be and create a life they love," says Coach Michelle.
Special thanks to Coach Michelle Pein for sharing her valuable guidance as well as her own experiences. If you're struggling to find your purpose in life, or if you need a heavy dose of empowerment, we encourage you to reach out to Coach Michelle for further guidance.
